Launch of George Wallace's Incident on the Orient Express

Incident on the Orient
Poems by George Wallace
ISBN-81-8250-044-3 2012 Paper pp.63

What better way to celebrate the long awaited release of George Wallace’s new book Incident On The Orient Express chronicling his experiences through poetry and pictures traveling from Europe through the Middle East and Nepal and ultimately to India by train in the 1970s then to have a book release party in a train car at an Indian restaurant?

This is a unique opportunity to hear work from Long Island’s own acclaimed poet from a bit of a different perspective than those of us who are familiar with his poetry may be used to. I have to say, this book is exciting, fascinating and transcending.

Renowned poet Yuyutsu RD Sharma will be joining us all the way from Nepal to talk about the book and read a couple of his own poems as well.

“An exciting and youthful journey of poems and adventures, we follow with enthusiasm, this young man’s journey to India. To travel to India is to search for yourself. For it is ever true that the journey leads to where you have always been”

George Wallace was Suffolk County’s first Poet Laureate. He has run poetry series in multiple venues in NYC and he still runs the monthly series at the Conklin Barn in Huntington going on 20 years. His work has been published in several countries and has been translated into multible languages. He currently teaches at Pace University in New York City and he is Writer In Residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace where he runs the Walking With Whitman reading series.

So, come, eat, have a drink (the mango lasses are awesome!) and listen. There will be a limited open mic after George reads. Then we can retire to the lounge for some music and fun.

I can tell you from my own experience. The food is magnificent and the staff is the best!
